Do You Want More Rudolph Valentino in Your Life?

Rudolph Valentino as Julio Desnoyers
in The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse

First off, who doesn't want more Rudolph Valentino in their lives?  Really? Of course you do!

One of the newer places to read about Rudolph Valentino with a unique outlook on his life and career would be Simon Constable's excellent blog His Fame Still Lives.  Simon has posted about Valentino's departure from Italy, his crossing on the S.S. Cleveland through his first days in the U.S. With a promise of more to come on the early days of his life in the U.S. (yay).  There is also a very interesting essay on the infamous "Slave Bracelet" and the history of guys wearing jewelry.  The blog is relatively newish, so there will be much more interesting content to come.  I recommend subscribing.

Flicker Alley has several Valentino films MOD (manufactured on demand) and the star is highlighted beautifully in their Valentino Collection DVDs. Watch the trailer and then go order them, you won't be sorry.  At $19.95 for Vol. 1 or 2, bluray discs, these are bargains! The new restoration of The Eyes of Youth and new to home media for the first time Virtuous Sinners are added delights.  Do not neglect to check the link to the critical essays for The Eyes of Youth (penned by none other than Kevin Brownlow).  If you love silent film, there are many other great essays for other silent films released by Flicker Alley to read.

Virtuous Sinners is notable as an early role in which Valentino's part is very small. Nevertheless, I was grateful to be able to see it.  The Eyes of  Youth is one of those parts where you can see a star begin to blossom.  You can also buy the dual DVD of The Sheik and The Son of the Sheik and Cobra as MODs.

Coming soon, from me, will be the newly expanded edition of my 2010 book Rudolph Valentino the Silent Idol - His Life in Photographs.  I will post an announcement here once everything is said and done and the book is available. Here's a sneak peek at the cover art. Pretty?  The expanded edition will be roughly 450 pages, more photographs than the previous edition and in beautiful black and white.  A color edition of this size was just cost prohibitive, so I opted for b/w and a more economical price.

If you play around on Facebook, there are several groups devoted to Valentino.  I am a moderator/owner of We Never Forget which used to be a yahoo group back in the day.  Everyone is welcome to join, so come on over.  Other groups I belong to are Mad About the Boy and Rudolph Valentino Fan Club

Finally, I am also working on the update of my old website and hope to have much more content, including the virtual tour of Falcon Lair, very soon.
